Workshops / Private Photography Adventures
Private Photography Adventures
Just you and me -- and our cameras! Private adventures are perfect for those who prefer one-on-one time - whether you want a patient and knowledgeable expert who can provide comprehensive photography instruction (from novice to advanced), or someone intimately familiar with the area who can lead you to the right place at the right time.
I understand you may not thrive in the dynamics of a small group, or might feel more comfortable going at your own pace -- no waiting for other, or others waiting for you! I design this time around your individual needs and interests.

These adventures include landscape and wildlife photography in Algonquin Provincial Park and Muskoka, as well as specific areas of learning such as photography fundamentals, waterfall photography, macro photography, post-processing/editing (Lightroom and Photoshop), and sports & action photography. I also offer any of my small group photography workshops and adventures to individuals, and private groups.
Nature & Wildlife Photography
Explore the picturesque landscapes, and set off in search of the incredible wild faces of Algonquin Park or Muskoka! Suitable for all skill levels - those requiring intensive instruction, as well as those who wish to simply be guided to "the good stuff".

This adventure is designed according to your level, needs and interests, which could include, for example:
* landscapes of Algonquin Park or Muskoka * wildlife of Algonquin Park * becoming more comfortable with your camera * how to get sharper images * how to expose your wildlife and landscape images properly * composition * waterfall photography * macro photography
Along the way, you'll learn about some of the different animals you might find, their habitats and behaviour, as well as some tips to help you find wildlife to photograph. Best of all, you'll have the opportunity to explore & photograph Canada's oldest provincial park!
Photography Fundamentals
Designed for those who have a digital camera to which different lenses can be attached (called a dSLR or now mirrorless, also), but are true beginners. Let me help you learn your way around your camera and how to change the settings to get the results you want. I'll start by teaching you the components that go into making an image – primarily aperture, shutter speed and ISO. They may not make sense now, but they will when we’re done! Those technical aspects will give you a good foundation before we discuss some of the more artistic elements that will help you translate what you see into an image you'd be proud to hang on your wall.
Post-Processing / Image Editing
Interested in taking your photos to the next level by learning about post-processing? Need some guidance on setting up Lightroom, or help understanding how to import and catalog your images? Have Photoshop and would like to know how to use it? Do you have Lightroom & Photoshop, but are not sure which to use for what? I offer in-person & online post-processing sessions.
Image Critique / Portfolio Review
Interested in feedback on your photos? Would you like to know what's working and what isn't? Maybe you'd like some suggestions for how to improve your images? I offer in-person & remote image critique and portfolio review.
Sports & Action Photography
Two hours one-on-one with your digital camera
An hour and a half will be in the field, photographing the action / sport of your choice. You'll learn the settings to use, plus tips & tricks to capture fast movement. The last half hour will be spent on post-processing, where you'll learn how to edit your photos for maximum impact.
This course is suitable for those who have a basic understanding of their camera and how to use it.

I would strongly recommend Helen if you want to learn the habits and habitats of Algonquin Park wildlife subjects. This workshop with Helen will elevate your portraits of animals with patience in your approach, and gain a more intimate understanding of their behavioral patterns. Thanks H.
